Photos for a Good Cause Reloaded

The Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism is about to start! On Wednesday, June 15th, it will be opened in Hanover – we are very happy to be present with a booth again.

For the fifth time, there will be 60 extraordinary exhibitions and 20 multimedia stories of young photographers from all over the world. Besides, there will be lectures by internationally renowned photographers, discussion forums, a technic showroom and a container village, that gives magazines, newspapers, institutions, collectives and projects the chance to present themselves and their work.

So, it’s absolutely worth visiting Hanover from June 15th to June 19th! And if there is a particular picture you like especially well, don’t hesitate to visit us at our booth in the atrium of the Design Center. As in the past years, most of the exhibiting photographers are making the prints shown at the festival available for a good cause again. The selected original photos will be available exclusively at the festival as an appreciation for a donation to the FREELENS Foundation starting at 100,– euros.

56 of the 60 exhibiting photographers have donated their prints for the fundraising campaign – a great support, we would like to say a big thank you for!

Benefit Exhibition at the FREELENS Gallery

“Good Photos – Good Cause” is the title of a benefit exhibition from November 8th, 2012 until January 17th, 2013. In favour of the FREELENS Foundation pictures of FREELENS members such as other photographers will be featured and sold at the FREELENS Gallery in Hamburg.

Numerous photographers already joined the initiative to raise money for needy photographers and photo projects worldwide: There will be prints on sale by Peter Bialobrzeski, Thomas Hoepker, Heidi and Hans-Jürgen Koch, Eva Leitolf, Gerd Ludwig, Rudi Meisel, Marco van Duyvendijk and many others.

Successful Fundraising Campaign

This year’s Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism broke all records: More than 30,000 photo enthusiasts were counted – a remarkable number of visitors. For the FREELENS Foundation this resulted in a very satisfactory fundraising campaign.

Present with a booth for the first time, we could win new sustaining members and raise more than 12,000,– euros of donations during the festival. A result that considerably surpassed our expectations! Most of the exhibiting photographers had donated their prints to the FREELENS Foundation before the festival, so visitors would receive an original print from the exhibition as a thank-you gift for a donation starting at 100,– euros.

The donations will be used to support needy photographers and photo projects such as workshops or exhibitions principally in developing countries. Persons responsible for projects on site – mostly photographers themselves – will in close cooperation with the FREELENS Foundation deliver donations and also document the respective project.

Photos for a good cause

After the great success in 2008, this year’s exhibiting photographers will be making the prints shown at the Lumix Festival in Hanover available for a good cause again. The entire proceeds will go to the FREELENS Foundation.

In 2008 there has already been a similar donation campaign in favour of the human rights organisation “Reporters Without Borders”. At that time more than 10.000,– euros were generated for a good cause. All original photos that are offered by the exhibitors will be available exclusively at the festival (June 13th to June 17th 2012) as an appreciation for a donation to the FREELENS Foundation starting at 100,– euros.

We are looking forward to give you an overview of all available prints at our booth in the Design Center. We are very happy about this cooperation and would like to thank the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hanover and all participating photographers!

Live at Lumix Festival 2012

The FREELENS Foundation will be present at the third Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism. Organized by the study course photojournalism and documentary photography of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the German photojournalist association FREELENS, the best up-and-coming photographers from all over the world will present their work in Hanover. Besides the 60 exhibitions 22 multimedia stories will be shown.

The Lumix Festival will take place from Wednesday, 13th of June, till Sunday, 17th of June 2012, in various pavilions on the Expo area. We would be pleased to meet you at our booth in the Design Center (Expo Plaza 2)!
